Invasive Species

Unfortunately Runyan Lake and many of our area lakes and ponds contains several invasive species which adversely affect our water quality and fish species.  More information, and actions you can take to minimize or prevent additional invasive species exposure, can be found using the links below

*** Anglers and Boaters - Please protect Runyan Lake!  Click here to read recommended precautions from the DNR to help prevent disease and invasive species transfer into our lake. ***

What Can You Do?  Invasive Species Prevention

Preventing the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species is critically important to protecting the health of Michigan’s valuable water resources. You can help by following these practices:

bulletRemove any visible mud, plants, fish or animals from boats, trailers and fishing equipment before transport.
bulletWash boats and trailers with a power washer, if available.
bulletDrain water from equipment (boat, motor, trailer, live wells) before transporting.
bulletClean and dry anything that comes in contact with water (boats, trailers, equipment, clothing, pets, etc.)
bulletDispose of unwanted fishing bait in the trash.
bulletNever release plants, fish or animals into a body of water unless they came from that body of water.
bulletLearn to recognize the appearance and characteristics of aquatic invasive species.

It's the Law - Violation of the following is a state civil infraction. Violators may be subject to fines.

bullet

Do not launch a watercraft or place a trailer in the water if aquatic plants are attached.

bullet

Do not release unused bait into the water.

bullet

Do not transport water over land in bilges and live wells.
